Critical thinking is a crucial skill at A Level and makes a significant difference to pupils’ final grades. However, a survey found that 85 % of teachers think critical thinking skills are inadequate when pupils reach post-16 education, while 56 % say the same of students going into higher education. Critical thinking is necessary for writing a good argument, so we have produced lessons that cover all of the usual subject knowledge, while also teaching pupils how to write a great essay. Edit mode is ideal for A Level pupils, allowing them to critique the argument, add their own ideas and construct essay plans. By developing their critical thinking skills, pupils will be prepared for life in higher education and the world of work.
